From Maui to Medals: Why We’re Backing Israeli Olympian Tom Reuveny

It’s not every day that a surf session in Maui turns into a sponsorship.

But that’s exactly how we met Tom Reuveny—Israel’s first-ever Olympic gold medalist in iQFoil windsurfing and now, the newest member of the Upwind family.

After his historic win at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Tom did what any world-class athlete might do: he took a breather. That breather brought him to the waves of Hawaii, where he crossed paths with our CEO and co-founder, Amiram Shachar. A few sets, some salty laughs, and one shared passion later, a friendship was born—and quickly evolved into a partnership.

Today, we’re thrilled to announce that Upwind is officially sponsoring Tom Reuveny through the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and beyond.

Why Tom?

Because he gets it.

Tom is 24 years old. He’s already a national hero, multiple-time world champion, and was just named Israel’s 2024 Athlete of the Year. He carried the Israeli flag at the closing ceremony in Paris. But more than the medals and headlines, what stood out to us was his mindset—sharp, focused, humble, and relentlessly forward-looking.

We see a lot of ourselves in that.

Upwind was built to push boundaries—of speed, clarity, and control in the cloud. Tom pushes his own boundaries every day, on the water, in training, and under Olympic pressure. His discipline mirrors what we strive for: no noise, just signal. No shortcuts, just real results.

And yes, the fact that “Upwind” is one of the most essential windsurfing techniques? That didn’t hurt either.

A shared mission

This partnership isn’t just about logos or podiums. It’s about supporting someone who embodies what we believe in: excellence, perseverance, and purpose.

“We’re proud to support an athlete like Tom, who represents the spirit of pushing forward—something we live by every day at Upwind. It’s fitting that ‘Upwind’ is now part of his story too. We’re excited to be part of this journey as he gears up for LA 2028.”

-Amiram Shachar, Co-Founder and CEO, Upwind

“Our connection felt natural from the start. I’m incredibly grateful to Upwind for believing in me and giving me the peace of mind to focus on doing what I love—competing at the highest level and representing Israel with pride.”

-Tom Reuveny, Israeli Gold Medalist in Windsurfing

What’s next?

Tom’s already back in training mode, preparing for a packed calendar of international competitions leading up to Los Angeles. We’ll be cheering him on from the sidelines (and the shoreline), and sharing moments from his journey along the way.

At Upwind, we move fast. So does Tom. We couldn’t imagine a better teammate.

Key Takeaways: Agentic AI security is an architecture problem, not a policy problem. Most organizations have adopted AI agents in the form of coding assistants, autonomous workflow tools, internal chatbots connected to production systems, but without establishing the foundational security frameworks those systems require. The adoption pressure is real. Telling your engineering team to stop…
