Why I’m Joining Upwind By Rinki Sethi

June 12, 2025

Over the past several years, I’ve had the honor of serving as both CISO and CIO at publicly traded companies, operating at the intersection of security, technology and business. I have led global security teams through high-stake incidents, built programs from the ground up, and navigated the complexity of modern enterprise environments where risk moves faster than ever. I’ve seen how traditional security tools too often lag behind the pace of innovation, leaving teams overwhelmed, underpowered, and reactive. I’ve lived the pain of stitching together fragmented data, chasing alerts in the dark, and trying to secure dynamic infrastructure with legacy approaches.

That’s why I’m thrilled to join Upwind as Chief Security & Strategy Officer.

This isn’t just a new chapter, – it’s a chance to help shape  the kind of security future I’ve always envisioned as a practitioner. Real-time, contextual, and finally built for the world we actually operate in.

Why Upwind?

The first time I saw Upwind in action, I was so impressed by the platform and the team’s vision. Shortly after, I became Upwind’s first public company customer. What immediately stood out was that this platform wasn’t built to just monitor the cloud, it was designed with DevOps grade understanding of cloud infrastructure, operating at runtime where risk actually materializes.

Most security tools are reactive. They drown teams in alerts, long after the fact. Upwind flips that model, combining eBPF-powered runtime visibility with contextual insight, so teams can make decisions in real time. Upwind is cloud security built for the speed, scale, and complexity of today’s environments.

The Mission Ahead

In this new role, I’ll be leading Upwind’s global Information Security and Technology functions, ensuring our internal security reflects the same level of industry-leading excellence we deliver to customers.

I’ll also be partnering closely with Amiram Shachar, our CEO, to help shape and scale key strategic initiatives across go-to-market, customer advocacy, and product innovation. I deeply believe that my appointment to this role highlights even further Upwind’s commitment to being a customer-first company, integrating the CISO perspective into every facet of the company’s strategy and keeping our vision deeply grounded in the realities that security teams face every day.

As a former customer, I bring the voice of the practitioner to the table – something that’s more critical than ever as the security stack continues to be reimagined in real time.

A Foundational Shift in Security

We’re at an inflection point in the industry. As workloads become more ephemeral and systems more autonomous, legacy practices no longer apply. Security findings can’t live in static dashboards, they need to be actionable, contextual, and real-time.

That’s what Upwind is building: comprehensive, real-time security for cloud infrastructure and applications.

With the company experiencing 4,000% YoY growth and rapid product innovation, there’s no better time to double down on this mission.

Why Now?

Because I believe in Upwind’s vision. Because I’ve experienced its impact firsthand. And because I want to help shape a security future that’s not only more effective, but one that finally works the way modern enterprises operate. I’m beyond excited to join a company that’s not just building a product, but reshaping an entire category.

Up and Upwind!

Security Reporting Built Around Your Program

We've all been there: it's 3:00 PM on a Friday, and you get that "quick" request for a specific security status report. Suddenly, your afternoon is gone as you juggle filters, export CSVs, and try to explain to someone outside the security team why these numbers actually matter. Reporting shouldn't feel like a fire drill…
